Residents' Club Renovations

Extreme Makeover

If you have been reading our newsletters, you are aware that the Board has worked to improve Vista Lakes’ amenities during the past two years. The tennis courts, pool and water slide were refurbished and the facilities have been upgraded by installing new sunshades at the pool, new pool furniture and plants, as well as minor repairs to the buildings. What is next?

How about renovations to the Residents’ Club!

Ten years ago, the original design was based on three separate structures: the larger wing on the right, called the Residents’ Club, was a sales office for the developer to market the community, the center pavilion, currently open, gets limited use and the Pool Office on the left side provides access to the facility by residents.

The initial design concept was to convert the Residents’ Club into multi-purpose space, the center pavilion to be an enclosed reception area and the space next to the pool office enlarged and potentially used as a fitness center. It also included adding two additional tennis courts in front of the existing ones.

Recently the Contracts Committee met with the original architecture firm that designed the Vista Lakes Amenities Center and discussed a number of options. Among the options discussed were:

We did discuss the idea of providing food services, such as light snacks, however we learned that other associations have tried providing this type of service and have not seen resident demand to support the cost of the operation.

The scope of the renovations will be subject to funding. We currently have set aside $50,000 from the remaining developer Turnover Funds to renovate the Residents’ Club, and another $29,000 allocated in the Reserve Fund for interior renovations in 2011.

The $79, 000 can be used to start the project, subject to Board approval. The Finance Committee is researching other options to finance additional funds once a plan is developed and agreed to. After approval it should take at least 12 months to complete.

Improvements to the Amenities Center will provide new and exciting facilities for residents to use. Investment in Vista Lakes’ facilities could also increase the value of your property.

We have heard from Vista Lakes' residents regarding what improvements we should consider - the most popular suggestion being a Fitness Center. To make the Fitness Center a reality we need volunteers to help make it happen, therefore if you are interested in having a Fitness Center at the Residents' Club, please and find out how you can help with this project.
